One helpful bit of information provided for each game is the number of bets, which is data provided to us by contributing sportsbooks. This number is not for a specific type of bet (spread, over/under, etc.), but for all the bets placed on that game cumulatively.
This data is particularly helpful in college sports, as some games in smaller conferences see far less betting action than a nationally televised game in a large conference would. Heavily-bet games offer more contrarian value because sportsbooks need to account for the influx of public bettors and will often shade lines in the process. This is not the case for tiny games, which see much less public betting action.
