Internet Speed Recommendations
Low internet speeds or an inconsistent connection can impact streaming quality and app or site performance. If you frequently use video streaming apps on your mobile device, you will need faster internet speeds to avoid buffering and ensure smooth playback. A minimum download speed of 3-4 Mbps is recommended for standard-definition (SD) video streaming, while high-definition (HD) streaming typically requires speeds of 5-8 Mbps.
It's important to note that these recommendations are approximate and can vary based on factors such as the app's specific requirements, the number of simultaneous users, network congestion, and other factors. Additionally, faster internet speeds will generally result in a better overall experience, especially if you frequently use multiple apps simultaneously or engage in data-intensive activities like downloading large files or streaming high-resolution content.
Managing Internet Connection Speeds
If you’re having connection issues or can’t stream live videos, the first thing you should do is run a speed test to check the strength of your connection. Contact your Internet Service Provider to discuss your options if your results are inadequate.
If you passed the speed test and are still experiencing connectivity issues, please try these additional steps:
- Close all apps or programs
- If you’re using a wireless connection, move your device closer to the Wi-Fi source
- Power-off all other devices connected to your home network
- Perform a power cycle of your device and router
- Turn off your device, disconnect from the power source, wait 30 seconds, restart.
- Open Action Network and test your connection by playing a video
Internet Connection Tests
A consistent internet connection allows for the best app performance and streaming experience on Action Network. If your streaming device doesn’t have a built-in speed test app or an internet browser, try doing a speed test on another device while you’re close to the streaming device — just make sure you’re connected to the same network.
On a computer or mobile device:
- Open your web browser
- Search for “internet speed test”
- Select an option from search results and run a test
